The man
After 18 years at the front end of Broadcast TV production, Video Consultant, Richard Flewitt, set up New Edge in 2003. “I wanted to challenge the traditional ‘corporate’ video, most of which are way out of date, by using the much more immediate style from the world of factual television,” he says.
Success with New Edge in the worlds of business, public services and social education are a result of Richard’s passion for helping clients to find the most appropriate style and language to communicate messages to people from all social and business sectors.
Richard’s career in television was mostly in news and factual programmes. For Carlton TV he initiated and produced a series of features indulging the viewers pre-occupation with other people’s lives. The success of ‘Everyday People’ led to a follow-up series, ‘Polls Apart’, which examined the role of our politicians from local to European level in a simple accessible style. Richard’s practical experience and expertise in TV production is complimented by an MA in Investigative Journalism.
Having helped professional broadcasters to present themselves and their ideas in a creative and effective manner, Richard’s involvement in current affairs also involved filming members of the public, who have no training in camera techniques. “Over the years I seemed to have developed a skill for helping people feel comfortable in front of a camera – which can be daunting if you’ve never done it before! When I left TV, transferring these skills over to the corporate world seemed the obvious thing to do – I’d been working with senior spokespeople for quite some time.”
Richard heads a team of talented and experienced specialists in video production.
The plan
New Edge likes to work at the cutting edge of the video world, advocating use of all the technology that’s available. In addition to the usual delivery methods of DVD and CD ROM, particular emphasis is placed on the use of video on the internet, or local intranet sites.
Broadband internet connections are now common and growing in strength (bandwidth) across most of the business world. Streaming video has become a powerful promotional and communication tool for a range of companies who would previously have only used print, telephone, or e-mail to communicate.
New Edge’s mission is to make the message matter at all levels, whether corporate communication, marketing, PR or information.
